Welcome to the 2008 NSS Convention...
Come block out the sun!
Our weather this summer is looking promising! Read more.
The programs will be held at Lake City Community College set on 100 acres of natural woodlands. The camping facilities will be located at Columbia County Fair Grounds. The camp site is 7.6 miles from Lake City Community College. No pets please.
The photo salon will also be held at LCCC.
Besides caving and cave diving, there are many things to do in the area, including canoeing, tubing, open water diving, and exploring state parks. Florida is especially famous for its springs. Be sure to visit floridasprings.org to learn more about them. Prevent WNS! Please bring clean caving gear!
Please note that the NSS-CDS Mini Workshop overlaps the 2008 Convention at the fairgrounds - you can attend both.
Check back often for changes to the schedule of events.

A Note About Our Weather
North Florida is in the middle of the mildest summer that I have experienced, and I have lived all my life in North Florida, almost 60 years. We are getting the rains that have flooded other parts of the country, but our sandy soils and karst terrain are sucking it all up and cooling us all down. It rains for about an hour almost every afternoon, with clouds shading us for most of the daytime. This is resulting in mid-day temperatures in the mid- to high 80s, then the rains cool us down to 74, and then after the rain the temperature rises back into the high 70s to low 80s by late afternoon. I haven't even been using my air conditioner most nights. We keep reading on various caving forums that other parts of the country are suffering sweltering heat and humidity, but North Florida weather has been much milder.
So, come on down!
