2008 Floral City Pre-Convention Camp
August 8-10, 2008 Floral City, Florida For those planning to arrive the weekend prior to the NSS convention, a few local cavers have planned a pre-convention camp to be held in Floral City, FL. The site, located at Crumbling Rock Cave, will have a primitive shower, porta johns and shaded camping. The property does have limited sites, so if interested, try to reserve a spot soon; registration will be capped at 24. Overflow camping is available at Tillis Hill located in the Withlacoochee State Forest, 8 miles to the west. There will be no charge, but donations to the Karst Conservancy will be accepted. Meals will not be provided, however, three restaurants are located within a few miles of the site. In addition to Crumbling Rock, several caves are located within 30-50 miles which we will strive to provide access to. These include Jennings Cave, Briars Cave, White cliff Cave, Catacombs Cave and Ocala Caverns. Directions from Lake City: From U.S.90 in Lake City, travel south on I-75 112 miles to S.R.48 (Bushnell Exit), exit west on S.R.48 towards Floral City and travel approximately 10 miles. Turn south on Istachatta Rd. and go about 1/4 mile to the first road on your right (Oak Ct.) (Sign is currently missing). Go just past the first road on the right and look for a dirt drive going to the right up the hill. Park along the ROW adjacent to Oak Ct.
